Wrecking a car is up there with one of the worst feelings in the world. You have to pay for repairs, which ain’t cheap. Not to mention if it’s an accident claim your insurance for the year will go up. What we must remember though, is that it could be far worse.
“I don’t believe you…my BMW was my baby before I wrote it off!” No, honestly it could be a lot worse. Here I have (in no particular order) 5 of the most expensive car accidents ever! Enjoy.
Mercedes Benz SL 300
This car is a masterpiece. Some might call it the finest, most classic car. You wouldn’t believe that anyone who was driving this beauty would be careless enough to crash it, but they did. This car was once worth nearly £1 million, and the owner thought it would be a great idea to race it in a classic car race on the streets of mexico. This great idea cost the owner around £750,000. Eye watering!
Bugatti EB110
This gorgeous car was being driven by a mechanic, as it was a part of it’s yearly check up. The mechanic (who I actually feel quite sorry for), says there was an oil slick on the road which he hit causing him to slam into a pole. This damage was worth around £500,000. Funnily enough, the owner of this car was a “feel good” expert…wonder how good he felt when he heard the news?
Jaguar XJ220
This Jaguar used to hold the top speed of 217 miles per hour, but not without a few bumps. There are two cases where this car has been positively demolished. One case where a bloke looking absolutely bewildered smashed it into a lamppost, and another where a man crashed it in front of all of his mates on a golf course (wasn’t showing off I’m sure). The damage set the owners back approximately £1 million!
Mclaren F1
There were only 107 of the Mclaren F1’s produced, a few of them actually destroyed. This car was the car that beat the Jaguar XJ220 with it’s top speed of 231 miles per hour. One horrific case where the Mclaren F1 was smashed up, was when none other than Mr Bean (actor Rowan Atkinson) was driving it. Mr Atkinson has a history of crashing expensive cars, including an Aston Martin. The Damage to Mr Atkinson’s Mclaren F1 cost him around £1.25million. I wonder how many episodes of Mr Bean it took him to pay that off?
Bugatti Veyron
This car is the most expensive production car in history. It is a wonder how the owners just go about crashing them willy nilly. One driver thought it would be acceptable to zoom about at 100 miles per hour, in the rain…resulting in a smashed up bugatti. He only had the car for a week too, lesson learned!
There you have it folks, 5 of the most expensive car accidents ever. What have we learned? Bugatti’s shouldn’t speed in the rain and Mr Bean should not own an expensive vehicle!
